Shifting of Distribution Transformer Centre

Shifting of distribution transformer centre is needed due to following reasons:

✓Increase in load demand which is not been supplied by the existing equipment due to lack of capacity. 

✓ In order to supply the load demand we have to increase the rating of each equipment which results into increase in size of equipment. If enough space is not available then there is a need to shift the distribution transformer centre.

✓Increase in voltage level leads to increase in the rating and size of equipment.

✓Large losses

✓Non-reliability of distribution of electrical power due to technical reasons e.g. variation in supply voltage and frequency, power theft.

(1)First get the single line diagram of existing distribution feeder having information about the location of existing load like shown in Fig.  on horizontal axis, similarly for vertical axis.

(2)Calculate the positive and negative moments by multiplying load by the distance both on horizontal axis, on same basis for vertical axis.


(3)Location of new distribution transformer is calculate by balancing positive and negative moment.


(4)This allows to get the centre point of concentration of load.


(5) Depending on new location calculate the new line losses and voltage regulation. Check the limit of line losses and voltage regulation. If they lies within acceptable limit, go for the erection of distribution transformer centre.

✓Replace old transformer by newer one to reduce losses.

✓Cost required should be less.

✓Increase the voltage level to supply future load and do the design accordingly.
